Why are Chocolates Bad for Dogs?

Chocolate is capable of causing the following problems in dogs:

  2. Seizures
  3. Irregular Heartbeat
  4. Internal Bleeding
  5. Heart Attack

Generally, when the toxicity of chocolate starts building up, the dog starts showing hyperactivity.

What Substance is Bad in Chocolate

In chocolate, there is a substance theobromine, which is toxic. Humans can synthesize theobromine quite well but dogs cannot. It gradually leads to toxicity in their bodies.

What to do if your Dog Eats Chocolate

If ingested in a small amount, chocolate might cause vomiting or diarrhea in dogs. If large amount of chocolate is eaten, then its stomach needs to be cleaned of the chocoloate or the toxicity can risk its life. In such cases, the vet will induce vomiting in dogs to get rid of chocolate eaten by them.

Note: Some dogs might show no symptoms after eating chocolates but that does not mean than they can be fed chocolates.
